This week on Talk Learn Connect, Journalist Yvonne Reddin asks Neasa McHugh, Training & Development Manager for Tour America, The Travel Suite & Cruise Holidays, to share some TLC

Could you share a summary of your travel background up to returning to Tour America, The Travel Suite & Cruise Holidays in January 2024?

Wow, it's been quite a journey in the travel industry for me! I've been involved for over 14 years, starting with Tour America back in 1995. I held different roles there, including Sales & Marketing Manager.
Later, I founded Cruise Holidays and served as Managing Director, earning recognition from various cruise companies for our performance.

As the newly appointed Training & Development Manager, what does this role open up for you?

As the new Training & Development Manager, I'm excited to blend my expertise in sales, marketing, training, and management with my background as a Life Coach and Yoga Teacher. I want to help Tour America, Cruise Holidays and The Travel Suite grow, while also introducing some fresh wellness holiday ideas.

"Even before the pandemic, there was a noticeable shift towards prioritising self-care and mindfulness. It's as if people were gradually recognising the significance of nurturing their mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, alongside their physical health"

You also have a wellness background and have led retreats abroad and in Ireland under the name 'SoulFULL' retreats, what does a typical retreat involve?

I've been organising and leading retreats under the banner of 'SoulFULL' retreats for the last number of years. These retreats are held both here in Ireland and abroad. What they embody is a comprehensive approach to well-being, intertwining elements such as invigorating yoga sessions, mindfulness practices, outdoor excursions, wholesome cuisine and immersive workshops focused on personal development and self-discovery.

Have you seen a rise in this type of holiday since the pandemic or has there always been an interest in them?

Absolutely. The heightened interest in wellness trips has been quite evident, particularly in the wake of the pandemic's impact on our lives. It's like people have been awakened to the importance of holistic well-being, realising that taking care of themselves goes beyond just physical health.

Even before the pandemic, there was a noticeable shift towards prioritising self-care and mindfulness. It's as if people were gradually recognising the significance of nurturing their mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being alongside their physical health. This growing awareness has been steadily gaining momentum, driving the increasing popularity of wellness-focused retreats and vacations.

Whether it's the stressors of modern life, the uncertainties brought about by global events, or simply a desire for greater balance and fulfillment, people seem more inclined than ever to seek out experiences that nourish their whole selves. And wellness trips offer precisely that - a chance to recharge, reconnect and realign with what truly matters.

It's heartening to witness people embracing self-care as an essential aspect of living a fulfilling and meaningful life.

What has been a quote or words of wisdom that you received throughout your career so far, that has stood to you in business and socially?

Mary McKenna has been one of my greatest inspirations and mentors since I was 17 years old!!
She has taught me so much about business and life. One of the quotes that I like to live by is by Steve Jobs - he said, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do" and I certainly love what I do and I hope I'm doing good work.
Another mantra I live by is, “Do the right thing.”
Anytime I'm in doubt or have a decision to make and I'm not quite sure what to do, I say this to myself and then I always know my answer.
And doing the right thing isn't just about making the best choice for ourselves but also about making choices that positively impact others and the world around us.
I think this question helps us to act with integrity and ultimately honour our values.
